TMA Detroit Webinar Decrypting Crypto: The Anatomy of Bitcoin

Friday, October 16, 2026 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM   iCalendar Eastern Standard Time

This webinar teaches participants the fundamentals of how Bitcoin works.  It covers the origin of Bitcoin; key concepts and terminology; what a “blockchain” is, how it is built, and why Bitcoin consumes so much energy to run; and the role of “miners” in propagating the blockchain.  It includes a brief overview of how liens in Bitcoin are achieved and (possibly) enforced, along with a brief discussion of the risks and benefits of the 2022 Uniform Commercial Code amendments as they relate to cryptocurrency.

After attending this webinar, participants will

  • Understand key terms, such as “key,” “address,” “wallet,” “blockchain,” and “miner,” and how each relates to Bitcoin
  • Understand exactly what a “bitcoin” is
  • Have a conceptual understanding of how Bitcoin processes and secures transactions
  • Understand why concerns have been expressed regarding effects on climate from Bitcoin’s security mechanism
  • Have a better understanding of how Bitcoin is treated under the Uniform Commercial Code
