TMA Indiana invites you to lunch and a Fireside Chat with Bobby Bean, led by Rhett Rowe. Join us as we “cover the waterfront” of challenges facing banks in 2026.
The U.S. banking agencies have made meaning progress in their efforts to modernize regulation through streamlining the examination process and refocusing it on core financial risks; reducing burden by updating regulatory requirements; and tailoring their overall regulatory expectations to actual risk. However, even in the face of this regulatory relief, banks are entering a period of growing strategic strain.
Economic volatility and uncertainties are increasing complexity across balance sheets and business models. At the same time, new technologies such as stablecoins, digital assets, and artificial intelligence are reshaping financial services and accelerating a shift toward real time, around-the-clock, access to the financial system. Competitive pressures are also intensifying as well-funded fintech firms and digitally native de novo banks target both retail and wholesale customers with high-tech flatforms and digital solutions.
In this environment, legacy strategies may no longer be sufficient. Banks will need to reassess their approach to products, infrastructure, and risk management for the next era of banking. Those that can adopt innovation while maintaining strong governance and controls will be best positioned to succeed; however, doing so will require time, investment, talent, and clear strategic vision.
