Come join two seasoned professionals for a discussion on accounting in an unstable economic environment. Attorney Al Derbes and CPA Patrick Gros will be leading this panel to talk through not only basic accounting concepts but also the accounting issues turnaround professionals experience when interacting with their debtors. This will be a valuable tool for all turnaround professionals, bankruptcy attorneys, accountants, and lenders alike. CLE Credit has been applied for. 

 

Panelists: 

Al Derbes (Derbes Law Firm)

Albert J. Derbes, IV is a founding member and co-managing member of the eleven attorneys at Derbes Law Firm, LLC. He has practiced law for more than 30 years, with a heavy emphasis in commercial bankruptcy-- representing creditors, trustees, debtors, and committees. Some of his more well-known cases include Schwegmann Giant Super Market (as Trustee’s counsel), Ormond Country Club (as Debtor’s counsel), and New Orleans Paddlewheel [i.e., the Creole Queen] (as Creditor Committee’s counsel). His other areas of practice include commercial litigation, commercial transactions, and entity law (esp. concerning the division of and liquidation of closely held businesses). He is a Louisiana Mediator. He obtained his B.A. from Rice University and his J.D. from Tulane School of Law.

Patrick Gros (Patrick J Gros CPA APAC)

Patrick J. Gros graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1994. He completed and passed all parts of the CPA exam in 1995 and became a Certified Public Accountant. He accepted a position in the audit department of Arthur Andersen upon graduation. He worked for Andersen through 2001, performing both financial audits and technology consulting services for clients. In December 2001, he formed his current company and has been President of Patrick J. Gros, CPA, A Professional Accounting Corporation, located in Covington, LA, for over 22 years. His firm consists of 22 employees providing various services accounting, tax, and business consulting, but concentrating in the areas of outsourced accounting and consulting services in the restaurant and hospitality industry, litigation support services in bankruptcy, forensic accounting analysis and divorce cases, contract Chief Financial Officer services and tax consulting and tax return preparation. He has been qualified as an expert in various aspects of accounting over sixty times.

He is a member of the AICPA and the Louisiana State Society of CPAs, in which he holds a committee member position in the Forensic Litigation and Business Valuation Committee.
